Words of Wisdom

A woman in her 80's who just broke her wrist said this to me today in reference to her doctor:

"He did not see me. He never looked me in the eyes. He does not care about me. He looks at me and all he sees is dollars, not a human. Why should I trust that he will make me better? What kind of person cares more about money than people?"

Amazing words of wisdom. People can tell when you do not care about them. Even those with dementia. Remember that.

We heard in BC (and I don't think this is just a Canadian thing), people angry on how they were viewed as a customer/consumer instead of a patient. Our whole capitalist society views people strictly as part of the economy instead of human beings. We have a danger of doing that in the church as well.

You see this more and more as drug companies control the way doctors "do business."
