Seeing is Believing

I don't want to traumatize anyone.

If you have a weak stomach or get nightmares, maybe don't look at these pictures. They'll give anybody a major knot.

But lots of people have been asking if we can't get in our apartment. If we can't go through 'our stuff'. If there really is 'nothing left'.

There really is nothing left. It is heart-wrenchingly awful, but it is an indisputable truth.

So, if you want to see photos of our place after the fire, well...here it is.

This is the apartment building in the middle of our crazy winter snows. Whole and intact. It kind of makes me want to barf.
This is the front windows the day after the fire. The fire fighters cut open that space underneath our front window to get in while it was burning and before the ceiling fell down.
Closer, more disturbing view. The stuff hanging is the floor and crap from upstairs.
This is the back. There used to be 4 apartments there, with 4 balconies. They knocked down the building so they could get at the fire.
A close up of the section that is, or was, our apartment. If you look closely on the right you can literally see through the front windows. You can see why it isn't safe to go in, obviously.
Really, really awful. Really, really bad.

Really, really nothing.

When you said "nothing"... I expected to see a big hole. These photos are more than a thousand words. What I see is useless rubble, burned and mixed to unidentifiable black lifelessness. This is what's left of dreams, personal artwork, irreplaceable family heirlooms; special momentos of love, special occasions, celebrations and lifetime achievements. Although dreams are held in our hearts and in our minds, as mere mortals these things fade. Humans need tangible items to hold the memories... we all collect them. Your loss goes beyond the physical. There are 7 stages to grieving a loss. 1. shock and denial 2. Pain and Guilt 3. Anger and Bargaining 4. Depression, reflection, loneliness. 5. The upward turn. 6. Reconstruction/working through. 7.Acceptance and Hope. Take your time to walking these steps, allow yourself the process, and be kind to yourselves as you do, knowing that you are human and these steps are necessary to heal. May God walk with you as you go... even if you are too hurt to call His name.
